From Raw Materials to Sheer Bliss

Who can take a pile of bricks and turn it into a cottage? A contractor can. Who can take a few loads of concrete and turn them into a sidewalk? A contractor can. Now, not all contractors have the same skills. A contractor who primarily works on cottages would probably have difficulty making a sidewalk, for example. However, those in this industry are very used to collaborating and reaching out to others when they come across work they don't specialize in. If you think contractors and their work are awesome, then you've come to the right place. This is a friendly blog where you can read more about the topic.

You Have Many Options When It Comes To Waterproofing Your Basement

Construction & Contractors Blog

It doesn't matter what you use your basement for; you want to make sure that it stays nice and dry. Water getting into your basement can damage anything you have stored in it, but what's even worse is that the water in your basement can end up causing damage to your foundation and to the rest of your house. That's why you should make sure that you have your basement waterproofed. There are various things that you can do to waterproof your basement.

French Drains

You might not think of installing drains as a way to waterproof your basement, but it absolutely can be a way to do it, especially in combination with other waterproofing methods. French drains are installed along the outside of your house. They are trenches that are dug and then lined with gravel and a pipe before being covered back up. The gravel keeps the dirt from clogging the holes in the pipe, and the pipe carries the water away from your house so that it can end up elsewhere. For example, the drain may let out near a storm drain so that the water can just go down the drain and not into your basement.

Paintable Barrier

Another way to waterproof your basement is to use a paintable waterproof barrier. These products are thick and go on just like paint. As they dry, they create a membrane that will seal your basement and help to keep water out of your basement. You can apply these barriers to both your walls and your floor. Once you have done that and the membrane has dried, you can even paint over it or installing flooring over it so that your basement will look the way that you want it to. These barriers can really help because they can seal up any pores in the concrete that your basement may be made out of. Water can get into the basement by seeping through those pores, so anything that seals those up is a good thing.

If you are worried about water showing up in your basement, you need to do whatever you can to keep your basement nice and dry. There are contractors who specialize in handling waterproofing basements. You should talk to one of those contractors. They will come look at your house and then tell you what kind of options you have when it comes to waterproofing. You can choose to use just one, or you can talk to the contractor about using a combination of options for the best results.
