Who can take a pile of bricks and turn it into a cottage? A contractor can. Who can take a few loads of concrete and turn them into a sidewalk? A contractor can. Now, not all contractors have the same skills. A contractor who primarily works on cottages would probably have difficulty making a sidewalk, for example. However, those in this industry are very used to collaborating and reaching out to others when they come across work they don't specialize in. If you think contractors and their work are awesome, then you've come to the right place. This is a friendly blog where you can read more about the topic.

River rock is popular for landscaping uses since the rocks have a pleasing rounded appearance and come in earth colors. River rocks also come in different sizes, which allows you to choose the perfect rocks for your purposes. River rocks are ideal for drainage, especially in a swale where the rocks are visible. Here's how to use river rocks when creating a swale on your property.
Mix Sizes And Colors
A swale is like a dry creek when there is no rain. Once rain starts, the water flows down the swale over the river rocks to create a beautiful water feature for your yard. The river rocks have a purpose besides just looking nice. They help direct water to keep the water from standing in your yard. When you vary the sizes of the rocks, the water slows down so it can seep down through the rocks into the soil.
The swale can be straight or curvy. A meandering swale helps slow down the rushing water too as it bumps into the large river rocks you have lining the sides. A mix of colors gives the rock bed an attractive appearance and saves you from the trouble of finding rocks of all the same color.
Create A Bed For The Rocks
Remove the grass and slope the swale to create a bed for the rocks. If you'll use mostly small rocks, a bed helps hold the rocks in place. River rocks can be under an inch in size or they can be several inches across. The largest rocks are heavy and probably won't move when rain pushes against them; these rocks can be used to divert water in case of an overflow or to line the sides of the swale to help contain water in the swale bed.
Add A Few Flowers
You can make your river rock feature even more attractive by planting flowers in the soil between the rocks. Flowers add color, and the rocks hold moisture in the soil that helps the flowers thrive between periods of rain. You can have a lot of flowers in your swale or you can keep out all growth and just adorn your yard with a beautiful dry bed made of attractive river rocks.
You may need quite a few rocks to create the bed, and the combined weight would be heavy to handle and transport on your own. Consider having the river rocks delivered in bulk if you don't want the trouble of loading up your truck or car trunk with heavy rocks and making multiple trips to get all that you need.
